Tom Nieuwburg studied Dutch Law in Groningen, specializing in Criminal Law and Tax Law. He was admitted to the Bar in 2005 and worked for several years as a criminal defence lawyer at Moskowicz Advocaten and Ficq Advocaten. He has since run his own independent practice in Amsterdam for a considerable period and, as of 1 April 2023, has entered into a cooperation with JKR Advocaten pursuant to Article 5.3(b) of the Voda.
He is known and recognized for his strategic and creative thinking. Clients describe him as highly skilled and decisive. Tom represents clients in large and complex criminal cases as well as in cases brought before the sub-district court or police court. He also acts in extradition and surrender proceedings.
At JKR Advocaten, Tom mentors junior lawyers. In addition, he serves on the examination panel for the Moot Court Training of the course Chain of Evidence, which forms part of the Master in Forensic Science at the University of Amsterdam.
mr. Nieuwburg is registered as a specialist in Criminal Law and Extradition and Surrender Law in the register of legal practice areas of the Netherlands Bar Association. Based on this registration, he is required to obtain ten continuing education credits each calendar year in this principal area of law in accordance with the standards of the Netherlands Bar Association.
mr. Nieuwburg is affiliated with JKR Advocaten as a self-employed lawyer and operates exclusively through his sole proprietorship, Nieuwburg Advocaat.
